SAFARI reaches into the possibilities of virtual landscape and uncharted space, showcasing the works of over fifty artists from around the world.
Avatar(s) 2D!!! : Video Works by Chris Corrente & Laura Hyunjhee Kim - - Art MurmurAs our physical bodies go about their business, moving about millimeter by painstaking millimeter, our ever-expanding network of digital avatars are teleporting around the ether, carrying out tasks with an effortless efficiency reserved for virtual reality. Our avatars communicate our emotions, maintain and nourish connective moments across the boundaries of time and space, and can stay active even while we are dormant. The works of video artists Chris Corrente and Laura Hyunjhee Kim exploit and expand on the power of the digital avatar. Obsessively digitizing their voices and bodies through the medium of video, their works seem to exist in a candidly unreal -- but convincingly authentic -- digital arena of whimsical frenzy, mirroring the forms of internet and pop culture while still drawing from traditions of performance and video art. Trifecta Gallery warmly welcomes the work of San Francisco artists, Chris Corrente and Laura Hyunjhee Kim to Las Vegas. Please visit the gallery's, Attachment Room for December's Preview Thursday (12/6) and First Friday (12/7) events, or stop by anytime during the month for a San Francisco treat. The art world has - through systematic, willful, and overt alienation - distanced itself from the social spaces of popular culture. Forced differentiation between ‘high culture’ and ‘low culture’ has narrowed fine art practices, and consequently eliminated vast potential audiences. The trio of videos in “[ul+ure [l@sh: Video Works By Chris Corrente and Laura Hyunjhee Kim” are indicative of a larger dialogue (between artist, art-audience, and art-world) centered around expanding the boundaries of fine art. By appropriating the mediums, methodologies, and tropes of popular culture, both Corrente and Kim daringly blur the line between art and entertainment. - DescriptionEkspozycja The Bay Area wystawiana w Galerii Malarstwa krakowskiej ASP składa się z dwóch równoległych wątków, których głównym wspólnym mianownikiem jest miejsce, w którym powstał prezentowany materiał i wpływ tegoż miejsca na kształt prezentowanych wypowiedzi artystycznych. Największa magia świata artystycznego The Bay Area polega na niespotykanej pod żadną inną szerokością geograficzną różnorodności, tolerancji a także na charakterystycznym, lekko anarchizującym zacięciu. Z jednej strony miejsce to definiuje bardzo aktywna scena LGBT, z drugiej Dolina Krzemowa, a z kolejnej powidoki ruchu Czarnych Panter, który ma swoje początki w Oakland. Samo miasto św. Franciszka jest matecznikiem twórców takich jak Richard Serra, Matthew Barney czy Clint Eastwood. To tutaj na najbardziej punk-rockowym instytucie artystycznym w całych Stanach Zjednoczonych studiowali m.in. Annie Leibowitz, Spike Jonze i Courtney Love…
Pierwszym z wątków jest wybór z mojego autorskiego projektu pt. World In Colors, którego zasadniczym problematem jest analiza konsumpcji przemocy przez człowieka kultury zachodu w kontekście zalewu informacyjnego, jakiego ów doświadcza w epoce wszechobecnego dostępu do informacji. Koncepcja cyklu jest oparta przede wszystkim na rozważaniach Waltera Benjamina oraz nawiązuje do Baudrillard’owskiej idei hiperrzeczywistości.
Drugim kluczowym elementem jest pokaz prac wideo zaproszonych przeze mnie do wystawy artystów, których twórczość znajduję osobiście jako reprezentacyjną dla Zatoki San Francisco. Biorący udział w The Bay Area twórcy to zarówno postacie wręcz ikoniczne dla sztuki nowych mediów w Stanach Zjednoczonych – specjalne podziękowania dla Toniego Labata – jak i artyści będący zasadniczo na początku swojej drogi twórczej. Prezentowane prace potrafią odbiegać od siebie zarówno w warstwie formalnej, jak i treściowej, a jedynym scalającym je elementem jest użyte medium, świetnie pokazujące całą różnorodność języka, jakim posługują się artyści tworzący w tym rejonie.
