"Close Encounters (2021-2022)" is a video performance that maps the architecture of downtown Denver's historic Daniels & Fisher Clock Tower as a site of convergence. Utilizing the facade of the building as a gravity-defying universe and its windows as portals that lead to vibrant spheres of imagination, or yet-to-be-revealed gradients of emotion, the projection features a speculative network of animated humans who curiously trace and interact with each other’s long-distanced presence—welcoming a hug from the unknown. Despite its happening on a two-dimensional surface, the performance aspires to breathe beyond the wall it is projected on and share moments of reflection, nostalgia, and liveliness to Denver pedestrians.
Synchronous Orbits is a public exhibition featuring time-based artworks projected on the historic Daniels and Fisher clock tower. This program is a celebration of the individuality of these artists and their work, which exists along the spectrum of emerging to established careers. The collection represents conversations that are unique to each practice rather than a recontexualized expression of a singular idea, therefore; the tools used to create each piece are as varied as the distinct significance of each selection. Synchronous Orbits features works by: Rory Scott, Laura Hyunjhee Kim, Shana Cruz-Thompson, Leah Diament, Sara Roth, Emilie Trice, Jasmine Abena Colgan, Cherish Marquez, Alejandra Abad, Mariana Pereira Vieira, and Chris Kore. Learn more about the artists below along with links to their social media accounts. Night Lights Denver is a permanent way for The Denver Theatre District to support innovative artists with an experimental platform while attracting a public audience on the 16th street mall. Night Lights Denver partners include Downtown Denver Partnership, Orange Barrel Media and the Daniels & Fisher Tower.
