TVDEADTV (since 2013) is an ongoing submission-based photography project.
“Out with the old and in with the new!"
"TVDEADTV" collects and archives crowdsourced photographs of abandoned television sets in public spaces. New forms of digital devices and online media consumption habits, subscription-based video streaming services have accelerated the evolution of digital content distribution. After servicing as the central source for information and ‘view into the world’ for years since the 1920s, traditional tube TVs are now symbolic remnants of "the arrival and rapid dissemination of digital technology in the last decade of the 20th century" - Marc Prensky Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants Part 1, On the Horizon (October, 2001)
This project would have been impossible without the contributing cellphone photographers. More than 400 television sets have been documented by over 40 contributors including myself from the streets of San Francisco, Los Angeles, Wisconsin, New York, etc:
