Synthetic Empathic Intelligent Companion Artefacts (SEICA) Human Interaction Labs

Picture
Synthetic Empathic Intelligent Companion Artefacts (SEICA) Human Interaction Labs (2017-2021) is a multiple-persona performance and transmedia narrative project at seicalabs.org. Along with the evolving personas and worlds in operation, the work contextually shape-shifts and experiments with the fluidity of how a nonlinear story can be experienced. The digital and new media artworks, writings, performances, and performance artefacts produced under SEICA have been included in publications and exhibitions, presented as performative lectures at conferences, and disseminated through various social media platforms (Instagram I Twitter I Vimeo) thus far. The world of SEICA, at least for me, is as real as you or I.

Welcome to Synthetic Empathic Intelligent Companion Artefacts (SEICA) Human Interaction Labs :

Operated by a team of cyborgian researchers, SEICA is a virtual organization that produces multimedia-based provocations that reflect on the modern human-(tech)-human condition and researches through designing (non)living synthetic entities that provide companionship, namely "Companion Artefacts."

SEICA Mission

We use technology-driven tools and strategies as a departure point to provide a thoughtful alternative approach towards networked consumer technology. By researching human-(tech)-human experiences and developing Companion Artefact robot prototypes, we strive to generate more questions, suggest possibilities, and open up new dialogues to bring the uncertain future a step closer for examination.

SEICA Vision

We imagine the potentialities of ubiquitous consumer technology through human interaction.

SEICA VIRTUAL RESEARCH LABS

RESEARCH GOALS
Observe and analyze modern human experiences driven by human-(tech)-human interaction and propose intermediary interfaces for application

SEICA operates four research labs that study key shifts in human behavior and experience in relation to new-er consumer facing technology:

Living Thing Research Lab (LTRL) questions what is philoso-fictionally perceived as a living thing
Human Condition Research Lab (HCRL) monitors and analyzes viral online content to reflect on the modern human experience in relation to physicality and materiality
Speculative Human Research Lab (SHRL) explores the uncanny properties of simulated human bodies in digital space
Intermediary Interface Research Lab (IIRL) proposes alternative intermediary interfaces for human-(tech)-human interaction The four operational virtual research

SEICA PROTOTYPE LAB

PROTOTYPE VISION
Adhering to the Goldilocks Principle, prototypes re-evaluate human-(tech)-human interaction and assist in building meaningful relationships

SEICA Prototype Lab focuses on three types of Companion Artefacts that cater to the specific needs based on various stages of the human life cycle:

Playbots (Companion Artefacts for digital native infants and children that function as learning tools for adjusting to a physical world that is heavily driven by digital content)
Emobots (Companion Artefacts for stressed adolescents and adults that function as emotional support to decrease social isolation and anxiety)
Therabots (Companion Artefacts for senior millennials and digital natives that function as therapeutic embodiments of comfort)

SEICA RESIDENCY PROGRAM

SEICA Residency Program offers a unique chance for ambitious and like-minded creatives to conduct self-directed experimentation and fast forward into the future with SEICA. We are interested in the seminal stages of textual and visual (re)search that can even be a speculative-concept in nature. Resident Researchers are also welcome to specify a lab or researcher for mentorship or collaboration.

The organization is currently accepting applications for the SEICA Residency Program.

"What will be in every household in 100 years?
The project borrows and subverts tropes from popular science and startup tech culture that expose the public to new-er consumer technology for educational and entertainment purposes. We explore topics on how technology inform the way we live, think, and interact with each other. SEICA hopes to bring a fresh-er perspective to help propel conversation and provide a thoughtful perspective on how we talk about technological evolution. "
